Don’t Be Afraid To Step Outside The Box

My first meetings are always the most fun and exciting. It’s when my clients and I get to discuss the vision to their perfect day and it’s when I really begin to get to know the couples on a personal level. Part of my job as a wedding planner is to listen to my clients needs and wants and to ultimately conceptualize a day they’ll remember forever. Sometimes, their vision is one they’ve had since they were a kid, and other times, they come to me with ideas that they’ve seen on Pinterest or in their favorite wedding magazine. And although I am not an event designer, being able to understand my clients vision is the first step in helping them to execute it.

I always tell my clients not to be afraid to step outside of the box when they are going through the planning process. No two weddings are alike and ultimately, it’s completely up to them to decide what they want — and for me to work out the details from there. There are so many alternative wedding ideas happening today and wedding trends are always coming and going. Couples often worry if their ideas are actually feasible, and I always say YES! It’s often these ideas that lead to memorable & special weddings that leave lasting impressions. So if you are debating going with that unique ceremony location that may require some extra logistics, I say go for it! Would you rather skip the traditional cake-cutting to opt for more time on the dance floor, why not? Or is that Sunday afternoon brunch looking like a more reasonable option so that you ultimately stay on budget? Then go for it!

Sometimes even the smallest of details that you may not have even considered will add that personalized touch to your wedding day. And many of these additional options don’t cost you anything extra. Maybe it’s considering an untraditional flower girl (grandmother anyone?) or maybe you and your groom walk down the aisle together. Have you considered having each of the wedding party share a short story or memory of you as a couple, rather than limiting it to the maid-of-honor or best man? There is ultimately always a way to make your vision a reality, so don’t be afraid to think outside of the box, no matter how small the detail.

Sometimes, the unknown can quickly steer to choosing what’s easiest, but not always what will make you the happiest. So, I wholeheartedly encourage you to continuously think outside of the box to make you wedding vision a true reality and I promise to do the same!

Until next time…

XOXO,
Jodie
